FORT MYERS, Fla.- Iowa State Tennis was defeated 6-1 Friday at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla.

Ana Gasparovic highlighted the day for the Cyclones at No. 4 singles with the only win over FGCU. The sophomore from Zagreb, Croatia defeated Bettina Botha in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6, 5-7, 10-5. Meghan Cassens also fought her way to a third set against Johanna Sterkel at No. 3 singles, but eventually took the loss, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.

The Eagles took the early lead with the doubles point, defeating all three Cyclone pairs. Caroline Andersen and Emma Waites took an unfortunate 6-0 loss to Gyanna Mandic and Breana Stampfli at No. 3. Ksenia Pronina and Samantha Budai also faced a tough 6-3 loss to sisters Sarah and Elizabeth Means in No. 1 doubles. Gasparovic and Megan Cassens put up a fight, but ultimately were defeated 6-4 by Johanna Sterkel and Bettina Botha in the No. 2 doubles match-up.

The Cyclones will see the Eagles again throughout the weekend as they take part in the FGCU Spring Invite. Also playing in the Invite are Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic University, and Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Singles matches will begin Saturday at 7 a.m. Central Time.

No. 2: Sterkel/Botha (FGCU) def. Gasparovic/Cassens (ISU) – 6-4
