AMES, Iowa -  The Iowa State University Alumni Association has selected Shellie Mosman of Carroll, Iowa, as one of five 2009 recipients of the university’s prestigious Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior Award, which recognizes outstanding seniors who display high character, outstanding achievement in academics and university/community activities, and promise for continuing these qualities as alumni.

Mosman, a senior in accounting with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, is a junior on the ISU’s women’s basketball team who was named to the Big 12 Conference’s Good Works Team in winter 2008 and is a recipient of the Cyclone High Scholar Athlete Award. She currently serves as co-vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Council and as a member of the Athletics Advisory Council. She has volunteered extensively across campus and the state of Iowa, including serving as the volunteer director of VERB for kids, a program to encourage youth to stay active.

The Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior Award has been presented annually to deserving Iowa State students since 1968. The award is named for Wallace E. “Red” Barron, a 1928 ISU graduate, who served as Iowa State’s director of alumni affairs from 1937 to 1968. Awardees receive recognition at two official ceremonies and receive the Official Iowa State University Ring compliments of the ISU Alumni Association.

Other 2009 recipients of the Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior Award include Samantha Clark of Decorah, Iowa; Daniel Fischer of Neola, Iowa; Kyle Peterson of Harwood, N.D.; and Clark Richardson of Memphis, Tenn.

Recipients will be honored at the Student Scholars and Leaders Ceremony April 5 at 1p.m. at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium on the ISU campus. The event is open to the public. The awardees will receive their rings at the ISU Ring Ceremony April 21.
