AMES, Iowa – Iowa State linebacker Jeremiah George got his wish today. The Cyclone gridiron
star was selected by the New York Jets in the 5th round (No. 154) of the 2014 NFL Draft. George is the fourth ISU linebacker drafted since 2006 (Tim Dobbins, Alvin Bowen, A.J. Klein) and the fourth Cyclone picked in the last three seasons (Klein, Carter Bykowski, Kelechi Osemele).

"Obviously, Jeremiah is a great football player, but above that he is an outstanding young man who was a great leader," head coach Paul Rhoads said. "He will have an excellent opportunity in the NFL with his ability to be productive and play on special teams.”

George had a breakout year in 2013, leading the Big 12 tackles (11.1) en route to All-Big 12 First-Team honors from both the coaches and AP. The Clearwater, Fla., native had double-digit tackles in nine of 12 games and posted a career-high 18 tackles vs. Baylor.

George, ISU’s Pete Taylor MVP Award winner in 2013, led the Cyclones in tackles (133), tackles for loss (12.0), forced fumbles (3), sacks (3.5) and interceptions (2). All of his 12.0 tackles for loss occurred in Big 12 action, ranking fifth in the league.
