Frank Nogel, who has been with Iowa State University for 15 years, was named Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations in 2005 with oversight responsibilities in the areas of development, ticket operations, special events and the ISU Letterwinners Club.

Nogel is liaison with the department’s multi-media rights holder (Cyclone Sports Properties), the Cyclone Gridiron Club, the ISU Alumni Association, ISU Foundation and oversees radio and television affairs.

Under Nogel’s oversight, all-time records have been set for fundraising and season ticket sales multiple times. Nogel and his team have created and launched several popular external events, including the Cyclone Tailgate Tour, Cy’s House of Trivia and an annual letterwinners’ jacket ceremony.

Nogel has led the fundraising campaigns for several major capital projects, including the $9.7 million Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility, the $10 million Hixson-Lied Student Success Center (home of the French Athletics Academic Center), $30 million worth of improvements to Jack Trice Stadium, the $8 million Sukup Basketball Complex, the $13 million Cyclone Sports Complex, the $20.6 million Bergstrom Football Training Facility and is currently leading the south end zone renovation campaign.

Before assuming his present position on the Senior Staff, Nogel was Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs (2003-05) and Assistant Athletics Director for Major Gifts (2000-03) at Iowa State.

He spent five years with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League serving as Director of Marketing and Operations (1994-97) and Vice President (1997-99). He also worked for the Greater Des Moines Grand Prix as Director of Operations and interim Executive Director. Additionally, he interned in Drake University’s athletics marketing office.

The Des Moines native has been involved as a volunteer with the YMCA, Iowa Special Olympics, Iowa Games and Ames Little League. He has served on the Iowa Sports Foundation and Ames Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Ames XXII.  Nogel participated in the Division 1A Athletics Director's Institute in 2006 and 2007.  

Nogel earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Iowa State in 1991.  He and his wife, Cheryl, have two children (Ashley and Joseph).
