Iowa State Travels to West Virginia

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State volleyball team will be looking to push its winning streak to seven matches Wednesday with a contest at West Virginia at 5:30 p.m. CST in the WVU Coliseum.

The match will be live streamed, free of charge, by Live stats will also be availible and will host a live blog.

  • Iowa State will be looking to push its winning streak to seven matches Wednesday during a trip to West Virginia for a 5:30 p.m. CST match against the Mountaineers.
  • The Cyclones avenged one of its two Big 12 losses this season last Saturday with a sweep of Oklahoma in front of a season-best 3,707 fans at Hilton Coliseum.
  • Mackenzie Bigbee is beginning to find her form again as shed led the Cyclones attack with 13 kills at a .370 hitting percentage. She also added seven digs and two service aces. Kristen Hahn broke another school record as she recorded her 45th career 20+ dig match. She finished with 21 digs to lead the Cyclone defense.
  • Kristen Hahn continues to be one of the best liberos in the coutnry. The senior leads the Big 12 and is ranked third nationally with 5.85 digs per set.
  • Hahn has won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Award five times this season and a record 17 times in her career.
  • Iowa State has been one of the best serving teams in the country. The Cyclones, as they have for the entirety of the 2013 season, lead the Big 12 in service aces per set (1.76 per set) and are the leaders in total aces in spite of playing the second-fewest sets in the league this year.
  • Iowa State’s serving is now garnering the attention of the NCAA rankings. Going into this week’s matches, the Cyclones ranked eighth in the country in aces per set. The Big 12’s leading server, Tory Knuth, ranks 20th nationally.
  • ISU has three of the top six servers in the Big 12 at its disposal. Middle blocker Tory Knuth leads the Big 12 at 0.44 aces per set, Ciara Capezio ranks second at 0.37 aces per set and Caitlin Nolan ranks sixth with 0.29 aces per frame. Knuth and Capezio are tied for first in aces per set in Big 12 play with Kristen Hahn seventh in conference action.
  • Five of Iowa State’s six losses have come to teams with an RPI in the top-25. Those losses were to Texas (No. 1), Nebraska (No. 8), San Diego (No. 14), Illinois (No. 18) and Oklahoma (No. 21). At No. 51 in the RPI, St. Mary’s is ISU’s other loss in 2013.

About West Virginia

  • West Virginia comes into Wednesday’s match with a 17-10 record, 3-8 in Big 12 play after losing a pair of matches in Kansas last weekend.
  • Against Kansas last Wednesday, Jordan Anderson and Hannah Sackett each reached double-figures with 18 and 13 kills, respectively.
  • Against Kansas State, Anderson led WVU again with nine kills.
  • Anderson continues to be one of the most frequent sources of kills in the Big 12, averaging 4.06 kills per set along with 2.66 digs per set.
  • Sackett has also been important to the Moutaineers attack, recording 2.90 kills per set.
  • Iowa State and West Virginia will play for the eighth time on Wednesday, with Iowa State leading the series 6-1.
  • The Cyclones swept WVU when they came to Hilton Coliseum back on Oct. 12. Ciara Capezio led ISU with nine kills while Tory Knuth and Tenisha Matlock each added eight at an over .400 hitting percentage. Kristen Hahn had 19 digs.
  • Iowa State has not lost a set to West Virginia since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 in 2012.
