Cyclones Bested by Marshall

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The Iowa State tennis team (6-4, 0-0 Big 12) faced a tough match Saturday afternoon, losing to No. 70 Marshall (6-2, 0-0 Conference USA), 7-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Ksenia Pronina and Samantha Budai started the Cyclones off with an 8-2 win over Dana Oppinger and Anna Pomyatinskaya. Marshall eventually took the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.

In singles, Pronina again faced Oppinger, winning the first set before eventually losing in a forced tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-5, 10-7.

Senior Emma Waites was also forced into a tiebreaker after a first-set tiebreaker, losing to Pomatinskaya, 7-5, 2-6, 4-6.

The Cyclones will be looking for success next Friday at home against Bradley and South Dakota. Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
