National TV And Cyclones.tv To Open Season
AMES, Iowa – Coming off three bowl seasons in four years, the Iowa State football team will play its opening four games under the lights and three of them will be televised nationally according to schedules released by the Big 12 Tuesday.
“The success and excitement surrounding our football program has improved our stature in regards to nationally televised games,” Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads said. “Playing games in the evening on national television is another great way to showcase our product.”
The annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game (Iowa State vs. Iowa) will kick off at 5 p.m. CT on Sept. 14. The game at Jack Trice Stadium will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1 (FS1), which launches in August as the rebranded Speed Channel.
The Cyclones will close their non-league schedule with a Thursday night game at Tulsa on Sept. 26. The game against the Golden Hurricane will also be shown on FS1 with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Iowa State opens Big 12 competition hosting Texas on Thursday, Oct. 3, with a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN. The Cyclones’ last ESPN night game in Ames was their 37-31 double-overtime win over Oklahoma State in 2011.
The season and home opener on Aug. 31 against UNI will be telecast by Cyclones.tv Powered by Mediacom. Kickoff, as set by the Big 12, is at 7 p.m. CT. The game will also be shown live on Mediacom – as a Cyclones.tv production – the result of an agreement last year between the cable provider and Cyclone Sports Properties.
John Walters (play-by-play) and Eric Heft (analyst) will call the action on both the telecast and the Cyclone Radio Network for the game against the Panthers. A pre-game show on both the digital network and Mediacom will lead into the telecast.
