Seven Cyclones Make NFL Rosters
AMES, Iowa – A total of seven former Iowa State football players will be playing on Sundays during the fall, as Tim Dobbins (Houston Texans), Seneca Wallace (Green Bay Packers), Ahtyba Rubin (Cleveland Browns), Leonard Johnson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Kelechi Osemele (Baltimore Ravens), A.J. Klein (Carolina Panthers) and Jake Knott (Philadelphia Eagles) all made the 53-man rosters of their respective NFL teams.
Two other Cyclones: Carter Bykowski (San Francisco 49ers) and Reggie Stephens (Baltimore Ravens) are on practice squads.
The list of NFL players affirms the improvement ISU has made in producing NFL-caliber talent under head coach Paul Rhoads. ISU had two players selected in the 2013 NFL Draft in Klein (5th round) and Bykowski (7th round) to go along with free agents Knott, Josh Lenz and Jake McDonough. Knott is the second free agent Cyclone in the last two seasons to make an NFL roster, joining Johnson, who started late in the year of his rookie season with Tampa Bay in 2012.
Osemele and Johnson are fresh off of outstanding rookie seasons in the NFL. Osemele, a 2011 All-American offensive lineman, started every game for the Ravens in their Super Bowl Championship season, earning NFL All-Rookie honors along the way.
Johnson, an All-Big 12 corner for the Cyclones from 2008-11, went undrafted in 2012, but made the Buccaneers roster as a free agent. He forged his way into the starting lineup by the end of the season and became a leader in the Bucs secondary.
Klein and Knott, ISU’s outstanding linebacker duo from 2009-12, will make their NFL debuts on Sunday (Klein) and Monday (Knott).
