Cyclones Strong in Spring Tournament
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team started its spring season Saturday with the Iowa State Spring Tournament in front of a spirited crowd at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State won all three sets of its matches against Omaha and Nebraska-Kearney while the Cyclones also took two of three sets off UNI.
Victoria Hurtt led the Iowa State attack with 21 kills across the three matches at a .316 hitting percentage. Iowa State hit at a .233 hitting percentage as a squad across the three matches. Natalie Vondrak joined Hurtt with an over .300 hitting percentage as she earned a .303 hitting percentage.
Vondrak led the Cyclones’ blocking effort with five total blocks on the day.
Another area that Iowa State showed its prowess in was serving, as ISU finished with 26 service aces across the matches. A couple of new faces led the Cyclones in serving as Samara West, who redshirted in 2013 and Suzanne Horner, a transfer from Mississippi State led ISU with five service aces.
Iowa State is back in action next Saturday at the UNI Spring Tournament in 9 a.m. Iowa State will play again in Hilton Coliseum this spring when they take on Nebraska at 2 p.m. on April 19. Iowa State also has a match against Creighton in Carroll, Iowa at Carroll High School at 6:30 p.m. on April 17.
