AMES, Iowa - Steele Jantz tied school records for completions (36) and touchdown tosses (5) to help Iowa State (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) win its Homecoming match-up vs. Baylor (3-4, 0-4 Big 12), 35-21 Saturday night in Jack Trice Stadium.

Jantz was on target all night, finding 10 different receivers for a career-high 381 passing yards. His 381 yards through the air is the fifth-best total in school history and his 36-of-52 performance ties ISU's completion mark with Austen Arnaud.

Jantz connected with Jarvis West three times for touchdowns, as West had seven catches for 99 yards. Jantz' five touchdown tosses equals Todd Bandhauer's school mark set in 1998 vs. Texas.

The Cyclone offense was in top gear, but the defense also came to play. The high-powered Baylor offense was averaging 48.0 points per game coming into the contest but could only muster 21 points against the stingy Cyclone defense. ISU also forced four turnovers in the victory.

The first six minutes of the game had a lot of action with no scoring. The Cyclones tried an on-side kick on the opening kickoff, but it backfired when Edwin Arceo's kick failed to travel 10 yards. Moments later Baylor was on the verge of scoring, but Jake Knott forced a Nick Florence fumble at the 1-yard line to stop a potential Bear score. It was the 10th forced fumble of Knott's career.

Iowa State punted after its first drive stalled, but Kirby Van Der Kamp's kick ricocheted off a Baylor player's foot where it was recovered by Durrell Givens at the BU 35-yard line.

The Cyclones couldn't capitalized, however, as Arceo missed a 32-yard field goal.

Baylor took the lead on a Jarred Salubi 2-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 with 5:20 left in the first quarter. The Cyclones then answered quickly with a 12-play, 75-yard drive to tie the game at 7-7 after Jantz found West on a 23-yard touchdown toss.

Baylor made it 14-7 shortly after when Florence hit a wide open Tevin Reese on a 49-yard touchdown catch on the first play of the second quarter.

The Cyclones answered again. Facing a 4th and 7 at the Baylor 36, the Bears blitzed and Jantz burned them with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Albert Gary to tie the game at 14-14.

Iowa State took the lead at the break (21-14) when Jantz hit West for the second time, this time from seven yards out, in the closing seconds of the second quarter.

The Cyclones increased their lead to 28-14 with the only score in the third quarter on a Jeff Woody 8-yard touchdown catch from Jantz.

The Bears had a couple of chances to score in the third quarter but the Cyclone defense rose to the occasion. BU had 4th-and-1 at the ISU 18 and opted to go for it, but A.J. Klein and Willie Scott stopped Florence for no gain to take over on downs. ISU stopped the Bears again on downs in the closing moments of the third quarter.

After Durrell Givens recovered another fumble, the Cyclones made it 35-14 when Jantz hit West for the third time on a 22-yard touchdown toss.

Deon Broomfield sealed the victory by intercepting a Florence pass in the final minute.

ISU ended the game with 557 yards of total offense. ISU also got its rushing attack back on track, churning out 176 yards on the ground. Shontrelle Johnson had 73 yards on 16 carries to lead all Cyclone rushers.

BU's Florence ended the game with 426 yards passing. His top target was Terrence Williams, who caught 13 passes for 190 yards.

Klein had 13 tackles and Knott registered 11 to lead the Cyclone defense.

Iowa State remains at home next week, playing host to nationally-ranked Oklahoma. Kickoff time has yet to be determined.
