Cy's Favorite Alum: Gary Lynch
“Gary Lynch is family to our program. I first met Gary in the spring of 1995 when we had our first coaches clinic under Dan McCarney. Mac helped change the culture on how Iowa State football was viewed in the state, and Porkie Lynch was right there at the very root of that campaign. He was out there with his folks barbecuing in the middle of the night to make sure that our event was going to be a first-class event. He hasn’t changed since then in his commitment and his focus on success in our football program.”
- ISU Head Coach Paul Rhoads
For Gary Lynch, a longtime friend of Iowa State Athletics, supporting the Cyclones has become a way of life. But it isn’t just about the games, it’s the friendships built over the years with coaches and administrators that he really cherishes. Since 1981, Lynch has seen occasional encounters with Paul Rhoads, Dan McCarney and Johnny Orr, among others, blossom into friendships.
This year, the Iowa State Athletics Department recognizes the loyal and outstanding support from Lynch by naming Gary the recipient of the 2013 Cy’s Favorite Alum award. Since 1955, the Iowa State University Athletics Department has recognized the loyalty and accomplishments of a graduate or friend of Cyclone Athletics.
“Gary Lynch’s passion for our athletics program is second to none,” Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said. “He bleeds Cardinal and Gold and is always willing to do whatever we need him to do to help our program. Gary truly represents all of the values that we look for in Cy’s Favorite Alum.”
Lynch has a passion for helping others and Iowa State has been a recipient of his giving nature. Gary has been a long-standing supporter of the Cyclone Gridiron Club and the golf tournaments the club hosts each year. Gary is at home next to the barbeque. During the preseason, Lynch is a lineman’s best friend, providing hearty meals for the football team on numerous occasions.
Lynch and his family first became season ticket holders in 1981 and he’s never regretted the investment into the Cyclone programs. He is a football, men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling season ticket holder. He has Jack Trice Club seats for football, attends many away games and travels to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championships in Kansas City.
His giving doesn’t stop there as he also has supported camps for all of the sports in which he is a season ticket holder.
Since 1973, Gary has been the President of Lynch Livestock, Inc., which employs 500 people in 12 states and engages in various agricultural business, from pork production to processing plants.
For the past 17 years, Gary and his family have supported charity events and individuals through the Lynch Family Foundation. The foundation has raised and given over $1.5 million to the communities of people in need.
Thanks for your support, Gary!
