No. 14 Iowa State Ready for Big 12 Opener at TCU

FORTH WORTH, Texas - The No. 14 Iowa State women's basketball team (11-0, 0-0 Big 12) hits the road for the Big 12 Conference opener to take on TCU. Iowa State looks to improve to 12-0 and tie for its best record in school history.

Cyclone Headlines
-No. 14 Iowa State kicks off Big 12 play at TCU on Thursday, January 2. The Cyclones are 8-9 all-time in Big 12 openers and 3-1 all-time against the Horned Frogs.
-With a win against TCU, Iowa State would tie for its best record in school history with a 12-0 start. The Cyclones have held a 12-0 record (1995-96, 2001-02) twice in program history.
-Iowa State’s 11-0 non-conference record marks just the third time in school history the Cyclones posted a perfect non-conference schedule.
-The Cyclones are one of just two teams in the AP Top-25 to have won all their games so far this season by 11 or more points, joining Connecticut.
-The Cyclone starting lineup has taken on the bulk of the scoring, as the five starters are responsible for 79 percent of the Cyclones’ points this season. The starters also account for 62.5 percent of the team’s rebounding.
-The Cyclones held steady No. 14 in the AP Poll after winning the Cyclone Challenge. The ranking of 14th in the nation is a season-high for the Cyclones and the highest ranking since 2010. The Cyclones came in at No.10 again in the USA Today Coaches poll, which is the highest since 2002. This is the 18th-straight time Iowa State has been ranked in the AP or USA Today polls.
-Iowa State is one of just seven teams in the country with an undefeated record and one of just two teams in the Big 12 without a loss, joining Oklahoma State. The Big 12 is also one of two conferences in which every team is .500 or better and no team has more than five losses. Iowa State is the only Division 1 program with undefeated men’s and women’s basketball teams.
-Iowa State is the only team in Big 12 with five student-athletes averaging double-figures. All five members of the ISU starting lineup are averaging 10 points or more.
-Senior Hallie Christofferson is averaging 21.8 points per game, which ranks second in the Big 12 and in the top-25 nationally. Christofferson is knocking down 53.1 percent from the field and grabbing 7.9 rebounds per game, which both rank in the top-10 in the league.
-Jadda Buckley was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week after two double-digit scoring games in the Cyclone Challenge. Buckley tied her career-high with 19 points against William & Mary. So far this season, Iowa State has been awarded a Big 12-best four Freshman of the Week honors. Buckley and Seanna Johnson have each garnered two weekly honors.

Last Time Out
- Iowa State took home another Cyclone Challenge championship with two 20-point victories over Holly Cross and William & Mary.
-The Cyclones kicked off the tournament with a 72-50 win over Holy Cross. Nikki Moody led the Cyclones with a team-high 14 points and 10 assists for her fifth career double-double. Moody’s 10 assists marked a season-high for the Cyclone.
-Against the Tribe, Iowa State was led by 19-point performances by Jadda Buckley and Brynn Williamson. Buckley went 5-of-6 from the field, while Williamson knocked down five from long range in just the first half to pace Iowa State to a 85-65 victory.   

Scouting TCU
- The Horned Frogs enter Thursday’s game with a 9-3 record and an undefeated (8-0) record at home this season.
-TCU’s Zahna Medley and Natlie Ventress lead the Horned Frogs on the court averaging 16.3 and 11.5 points respectively. Ventress is also the team’s second-leading rebounder (6.0 rpg) behind Latricia Lovings (7.6 rpg).
-The Horned Frogs have put together a tremendous defensive showing this season, ranking third in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 31.2 percent. TCU also comes in at 14th nationally in scoring defense, holding the opposition to just 54.9 points.
-Also contributing to the Horned Frogs defensive game, TCU ranked fourth in blocked shots per game, averaging 6.3, as Latricia Lovings leads the way averaging 3.42 per game.
-TCU ranks second in the league in steals, averaging 10.1 per game.
-The Cyclones hold the series against the Horned Frogs with a 3-1 record. The sole blemish in the series for ISU came last season at TCU, when Iowa State dropped a 58-61 decision in Fort Worth, Texas.

Iowa State From Beyond the Arc
- The Cyclones knocked down 85 three-pointers so far this season for a league-leading average of 10.0 trey’s per game, which ranks fourth nationally. Iowa State is second in the Big 12 in three-point field goal percentage shooting 38.2 from long.
-Jadda Buckley, Brynn Williamson and Kidd Blaskowsky lead Iowa State with 67 three-pointers between the them.
