AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State kick returner Leonard Johnson has been named a second-team freshman All-American by Rivals.com. Johnson set an NCAA FBS record with 319 kickoff return yards against Oklahoma State. The Clearwater, Fla. native averaged 26.4 yards per kickoff return last season. That mark is the second-best in school history (Luther Blue, 1974, 32.75). He had returns of 73 and 72 yards at Oklahoma State. Johnson, a cornerback who had 47 tackles and two interceptions in 2008, was the major reason Iowa State improved from 109th to 14th nationally in kickoff returns. Individually, Johnson ranked fourth in the Big 12 and 18th nationally in kickoff return average.
