AMES, Iowa – The fourth annual Cy’s House of Trivia took place Saturday night with a record number of contestants in the fan-friendly event. A total of 70 teams – over 560 participants – crowded the Hilton Coliseum floor to see who had the best trivial mind.
To say the CHT event has caught on is an understatement. Participation has almost tripled since 28 teams signed up for the inaugural event three years ago. Basically through word of mouth, Cyclone fans have embraced the social event as a can’t-miss date for the season.
“Tonight was just another great night for Cy's House of Trivia,” said Ryan McGuire, ISU’s Assistant Athletics Director for Special Events and Letterwinners. “It is great to see our fans get the chance to interact with many of our coaches, staff, and letterwinners in such a relaxed setting. We owe a great deal of thanks to our participants, because this has grown through recommendations from our participants year after year.”
The format of the event has not changed. Tables of eight players answered eight rounds of questions – 10 questions in each round- to see who could get the most answers correct. Categories in this year’s contest ranged from: “What a Character,” “Blinded me Science,” “Girlie Songs,” “Googigly Moogily,” “Myth Busters, Literature,” “Wide World of Sports,” and “Dead or Alive.”
Each table was treated with rotating ISU celebrities to help answer questions. This year’s ISU star list included ISU athletics director Jamie Pollard, Paul Rhoads and his staff, NFL star Dennis Gibson, NBA star Zaid Abdul-Aziz, Marv Seiler, Stacy (Frese) Huber, Steve Krafcisin and Megan Taylor to just a name a few.
WHO-TV personality and co-host of the award-winning Sports SoundOff show Andy Fales emceed the event for the second consecutive year. The top-three finishers were awarded prizes which included a 2010 football tailgate tent and men’s and women’s basketball tickets and pre-game parties. All proceeds of the event went to the Cyclone Club.
