AMES, Iowa - The fifth installment of Cy's House of Trivia produced record numbers yet again, as the annual fan-friendly event took place over the weekend in Hilton Coliseum.
From its humble beginnings in 2007 when 28 teams signed up, the Cyclone social event of the year shattered attendance marks with 88 teams (tables) occupying virtually every open spot on the Hilton Coliseum floor.
The format remained the same. Tables of eight players answered eight rounds of questions - 10 questions in each round - to see who could get the most answers correct. This year's categories included: "Big 80s", "B Movies", "One-Hit Wonders", "Corporate Logos", "Who's That Girl", "Tis The Season", "That's So Easy, Or Is It?" and "8th Grade History."
Iowa State celebrities rotated among the tables to help participants answer questions. Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard, Iowa State men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg, Iowa State football coach Paul Rhoads, Tom Randall, Bret Meyer, Lyndsey (Medders) Fennelly, Mike O'Connell, Kelsey Bolte, Austen Arnaud and Alexander Robinson were among this year's celebrities.
For the third year in a row, WHO-TV personalities Keith Murphy and Andy Fales emceed the event. Murphy and Fales co-host the award-winning Sports SoundOff show Sunday nights on WHO and have their own daily radio show (Murph and Andy) on 1460 KXNO.
The top-six finishers were awarded prizes which included a free table for next year, 2011 football tailgate tent and men's and women's basketball tickets and pre-game parties. All proceeds of the event went to the Cyclone Club.
