HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Iowa State men’s golf team placed ninth at the Big 12 Championship with a three-round 904 total at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
Texas won the team title at 859, four shots better than Oklahoma State (863).
Iowa State star Scott Fernandez fired a 73 this afternoon to tie for seventh in the medalist race at 217 (72-72-73). Fernandez shot a 40 on his first nine holes, but rallied to card a 2-under-33 in the final nine en route to his eighth top-10 performance in nine tournaments this season.
Fernandez, who was named to the Palmer Cup on Monday, is just the third Cyclone in school history to place in the top-10 at the Big 12 Championship (Chris Baker, 2005; Donnie Teeter, 1997). He was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament team.
Sam Daley tied for 31st at 228 (75-73-80).
This concludes Iowa State’s regular season. Fernandez is a virtual lock to make postseason as an individual pick to a NCAA Regional.
