AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics team announced its 2013 season awards at its end-of-the-year banquet with sophomore Caitlin Brown earning the top honor at the event.

Brown was named Iowa State’s Janet Anson ‘Key’ Gymnast of the Year.  The Apple Valley, Minn., native registered new career highs on bars (9.725), beam (9.875), floor (9.875) and the all-around (38.875) in 2013. Brown was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team after placing third on beam at this season’s league meet.

Senior Elizabeth Stranahan earned Iowa State’s Most Improved Gymnast Award.  Stranahan made her collegiate debut on beam, vault and the all-around in her final campaign at Iowa State.  Stranahan’s 39.175 all-around score at the Big 12 Championship was the highest by a Cyclone on the event in 2013. The Atlanta, Ga., native was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team after placing third in the all-around at the league meet.

Sammie Pearsall was named the freshman of the year.  The La Grange, Ill., native was consistently solid on beam and floor for the Cyclones in 2013 and appeared on both events at every meet.  Pearsall scored as high as 9.875 on beam and 9.750 on floor.

The team’s Rock Award went to Michelle Shealy for being the most consistent performer in 2013.  Shealy ended her season by tying for fifth on beam at the NCAA Championships and earning All-America First-Team honors.

Junior Milan Ivory earned the Comeback Award.  The Marietta, Ga., native competed for the Cyclones after missing a bulk of her freshman and sophomore seasons due to injury.  Ivory earned All-Big 12 Championship Team honors after placing third on vault with a career-best 9.875 effort at the league meet.  Ivory’s vault score was ISU’s highest on the apparatus and she tied Henrietta Green for the team’s top mark on floor (9.875).

Junior Camille Santerre-Gervais and Michelle Shealy shared the team’s Sky High Award that goes to the gymnast(s) that register that highest mark on any event.  Santerre-Gervais (bars) and Shealy (beam) both registered 9.900 scores during the 2013 campaign.  Santerre-Gervais scored 9.900 on bars at the Big 12 Championship and Shealy’s 9.900 beam performance came at the NCAA Championships.
