AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Athletics Department announced today that Mike Green, who’s worked 18 years in the Iowa State Athletics Communications office, has been named Director of Athletics Communications.
Green replaces Tom Kroeschell, who served as Director of Athletics Communications at Iowa State since 1993. Kroeschell is the new Director of Programming for Cyclones.tv.
“We are very pleased to elevate Mike Green to the management level of our department as the Director of Athletics Communications at Iowa State,” Senior Associate Athletics Director Steve Malchow said. “Mike has served this institution in an exemplary fashion for nearly two decades and his varied skill set, historical knowledge of the Cyclones and loyalty made him an ideal candidate. He has a vision for adapting to an ever-changing communications landscape and his outstanding relationships with the local and national media position him to be an outstanding asset to our department for many years.”
A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Green served 13 seasons as the men’s basketball contact at Iowa State, successfully promoting a number of Cyclone basketball players for postseason honors and expanding the social media presence for the sport. At over 15,200 followers, the Iowa State Twitter account (@CycloneMBB) ranks among the top-20 most followed college basketball accounts in the nation.
Green also has helped promote the Cyclone wrestling, volleyball, baseball and men’s and women’s golf teams during his tenure with the department.
He will take over as the primary liaison for the Iowa State football team, a program which has made bowl appearances in three of the last four seasons.
“I am extremely honored and blessed to receive the opportunity to serve as the Director of Athletics Communications at Iowa State,” Green said. “This is, and always will be, my dream job and there isn’t a better time to be a part of Cyclone Nation.”
Green earned his undergraduate degree from Northern Iowa in 1993, earning two letters as a member of the golf team. He received his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Iowa State in 1997.
A member of the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Green has served on the Iowa State Hall of Fame selection committee since 2000.
