Smith Adds Harasyn to Coaching Staff
AMES, Iowa – Eric Harasyn has been named the director of operations for Iowa State track and field and cross country, Cyclone head coach Martin Smith announced, Wednesday.
Harasyn will take on responsibilities such as scheduling, team travel logistics, host event management and managing communication between the track and field staff and other athletics offices.
Harasyn is no stranger to Smith’s coaching scheme. This past year, the Sierra Vista, Ariz., native worked as a graduate assistant in the Oklahoma track and field program. Harasyn also ran under Smith from 2010-12, earning All-Big 12 and All-America honors as a Sooner student-athlete. Harasyn was also a two-time NJCAA All-American.
“Having run under Coach Smith, we developed a very good relationship,” Harasyn said. “We gel very well together. I love the atmosphere here. The facilities are top notch. I love the small-town feel and the people [of Ames] are great.”
Smith is happy to have Harasyn on the staff.
“Eric ran for me while I was at Oklahoma and was a very accomplished middle-distance athlete,” Smith said. “He was an individual Big 12 champion and an NCAA All-American and served last year as a graduate assistant for me in an administrative role. We’re very familiar with one another and how we like to do things, so it was a natural fit.”
