AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s and women’s track and field teams start their 2013-14 indoor seasons Friday by hosting the ISU Holiday Classic. The event will be held at the Lied Recreation Center.
The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. CDT with the weight throw and the long jump. Running events will begin at 4 p.m., kicking off with women’s 60-meter hurdles.
Iowa State director of track and field and cross country Martin Smith is excited to see where the athletes are in their training.
“The Holiday Preview will be the first step in evaluating where a lot of our track athletes are coming off the Fall,” Smith said. “It's the first test to see if we are ahead or behind in fitness heading into winter break. The meet will also be a good opportunity to break up training experience and compete in a meet in environment.”
The event will give Cyclone student-athletes an opportunity to shake of any leftover rust from the offseason and get back into the swing of competition.
Teams scheduled to compete include Western Illinois, Drake, Northern Iowa, Simpson, Central College, Missouri State, Lincoln (Mo.), the Speed City Track Club and the Iowa State Running Club.
