Neppel-Darrah captured the individual title at the first-ever Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) cross country meet in 1975, marking the first individual national title for an ISU woman. The Cyclone standout led Iowa State to its first of three consecutive AIAW cross country championships from 1975-77.  During her career at Iowa State, Neppel-Darrah and her teammates were never beaten in cross country. Neppel-Darrah captured the national titles in the two-mile run and the three-mile run at the 1976 AIAW track meet, becoming the only Cyclone athlete to win two national titles in the same AIAW track meet. She received the meet’s most outstanding performer honor and the team placed third at the national meet in Manhattan, Kan. The Cyclone distance runner captured five Big Eight championships in track and one in cross country. Iowa State captured Big Eight outdoor team titles from 1974-76. Neppel-Darrah holds five Iowa State outdoor records and set world records in the three-mile run, 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run. The Iowa Stater won the 1977 New York City Mini-Marathon and captured the AAU 10,000-meter national title.
