Game #1-Mount St. Mary's
• Iowa State takes to the court for the second time in four days when it hosts Mount St. Mary's Monday evening at Hilton Coliseum...the Cyclones will look to start the season 2-0 for the fifth consecutive season...ISU is one of six Big 12 teams playing Monday night.
• The Cyclones and Mountaineers will be a family reunion of sorts for Nazareth Mitrou-Long as his younger brother, Elijah Long, is a sophomore guard for Mount St. Mary's...the brothers will have around 20 family and friends in attendance at the game.
• Steve Prohm will be looking for his 25th win as head coach of the Cyclones in his 37th game...he would be the second-fastest Cyclone coach to 25 wins as Tim Floyd won his 25th game in his 37th trip to the sideline...the next fastest to 25 wins was Bill Stranigan, who it took 38 games to reach 25 wins.
#CycloneNotes
• ISU opened the season Friday night with a 113-71 win against Savannah State, its 19th consecutive win on opening day...the 113 points were the second-most scored by any team against a Division I opponent through the first two days of play (UCLA, 119 vs. Pacific)...the high-octane game featured 97 total possessions (accoding to kenpom.com)...the last time ISU scored 100 points in back-to-back games was the 2000-01 season in the first two games.
• Senior Monté Morris tipped off his senior season with a nearly flawless performance...he scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting and dished out 11 assists with no turnovers...he is the ninth Division I college basketball player since 2010-11 to post 21 points, 11 assists and no turnovers in a game (according to @collegebb_ref)...Morris accounted for 46 of ISU's 113 points via his own scoring and assists (40.7 percent of the points scored).
• Nazareth Mitrou-Long posted his first double-double (18 pts-10 rbs) and missed the school's fifth triple-double by three assists.
• ISU has won 35 consecutive non-conference games at home, the third-longest streak in the nation.
• Iowa State is ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press preseason poll...the Cyclones have been ranked in a school-record 57 consecutive AP polls, the third-longest streak nationally (Kansas, Arizona)...ISU is receiving votes in the coaches poll.
• The Cyclones are looking to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season...ISU is one of 10 schools nationally to make the NCAA Tournament the last five seasons...the Cyclones are trying to become the first Division I men's basketball program from the State of Iowa to make six consecutive NCAA Tournaments.
• Morris was voted the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and Associated Press Preseason All-American...he was the only unanimous selection to the preseason team.
• Morris is also the active career leader in the Big 12 in assists (562) and steals (175)...nationally he is third among active players in assists and steals...he passed former KU player Sherron Collins on Friday to move into seventh on the Big 12's career assist list...he needs just three assists to move past Terry Woods for fifth on ISU's career list.
• Along with Morris, fellow seniors Mitrou-Long and Matt Thomas give Iowa State one of the more experienced backcourts in the nation...the trio has combined to start 179 games and have made 431 three-pointers at a 37.8 percent clip...all three players have averaged double-figures at least one season in their careers.
• ISU has won 77 games the last three seasons...the school record for wins in a four-year period is 99 wins (2013-16)...Morris has played in all 77 wins, just 21 shy of Georges Niang's record of 98 wins played in.
Iowa State-Mount St. Mary's Series Notes
• Iowa State and Mount St. Mary's are meeting for the first time in series history.
• The Mount is a member of the Northeast Conference...this will be just the fourth time Iowa State has faced a foe from the NEC...the Cyclones hold an unblemished 3-0 record against the teams, defeating Central Connecticut State (2-0) and Wagner (1-0)...the last time ISU faced an NEC school was Wagner in 2005.
• Steve Prohm is facing Mount St. Mary's for the first time in his six years as a head coach.
Last time out - Cyclones Roll In Season Opener
• Iowa State shot 55.3 percent and had 31 assists to defeat Savannah State, 113-71, Friday night in its season opener...the 113 points gave ISU its first 100-point output in an opener since Nov. 20, 2005 (101 vs. Mountain State)...it was the most points scored in an opener since Nov. 24, 1991 (114 vs. Maryland-Eastern Shore).
• The Cyclones had 31 assists, topping 30 for the first time in 22 years (31 vs. North Florida, 12-22-94)...ISU did have 20 turnovers in the game.
• 74 of Iowa State's 113 points were scored in the paint...the Cyclones had a 29-2 edge on second-chance points...ISU dominated the glass, grabbing 17 offensive boards and holding a 62-36 edge in rebounding.
• Five Cyclones scored in double figures led by Morris' 21 points...the senior Naismith Award candidate also had 11 assists and zero turnovers to go along with three steals...he was 9-for-11 from the field.
• Mitrou-Long turned in a near triple-double, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists...it was his first career double-double.
• Iowa State's big-man foursome (Bowie, Burton, Holden, Young) finished with 38 points and 29 rebounds...they were 16-for-27 from the field.
• Nine Cyclones played 10+ minutes...last season, ISU played nine players 10 or more minutes just once...the 41 bench points scored were more than ISU scored in any game last season.
