AMES, Iowa – Mike Warren literally burst onto the national college football scene as a redshirt freshman in 2015.
Warren, who recorded just 9 carries and 28 yards as a backup in the first two games, took advantage of his first career start in game three vs. Toledo, rushing for 126 yards in 21 attempts.
Warren then proceeded to establish the greatest rushing season by a Cyclone rookie in school history, ending the year with 1,339 yards on the ground with an impressive 5.9 yards per carry. He led all Big 12 rushers (league games only) in yards per game at 131.7.
A native of Lawton, Okla., Warren was named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous selection for Freshman All-America honors.
Warren, who has already picked up a slew of preseason accolades for 2016, will definitely be a primary weapon in first-year head coach Matt Campbell's offense. Warren recently sat down with John Walters in our latest CyCast to discuss the transition with Campbell and how he is aiming to improve on his fantastic freshman season.
