AMES, Iowa – Iowa State cross country boasts two of the nation's Top 10 programs in the Week 4 USTFCCCA poll. The Cyclone men remained No. 1 for the fifth-straight week while the women jumped 10 spots to No. 6 following the Nuttycombe Invitational.
Iowa State is the only school in the country with both its men's and women's programs in the Top 6. Both the Cyclone men and women were also voted the top programs in the Midwest Region, announced by the USTFCCCA on Monday afternoon.
The Iowa State women made a statement in Madison last week, racing to a third-place team finish among 17 other ranked programs. Mercyline Kirwa led the Cyclones with a Top 5 individual finish, running 19:44.8 over 6K. Maelle Porcher and Betty Kipkore joined Kirwa in the Top 15 while Mercy Kibet finished 29th to help the ISU team effort.
On the men's side, Seth Clevenger finished 19th at Wisconsin in a breakout race for the Haddonfield, New Jersey native. Iowa State rested its five top individual finishers from the Gans Creek Classic ahead of the Big 12 Championships, slated for October 31.
