FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Iowa State tennis team completed its second day at the Jon Messick Invitational Saturday with seven wins overall.Â
In doubles action, the Cyclone pairings were able to pick up three wins. Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova defeated a pair from CSU, 6-3. Meanwhile, Karen Alvarez teamed up with CSU's Sandra Keta. The duo went on to defeat Habiba Aly and Hannah Wich of South Dakota, 6-2. Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna also defeated a pair from South Dakota, walking away with a 6-1 win against Nanette Nylund and Jana Lazarevic. Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola fell 6-1 against Priscilla Palermo and Alyssa Grijalva of Colorado State.
Annabella Bonadonna, Karen Alvarez, Ekaterina Repina and Regina Espindola won their singles matches, while Margarita Timakova and Erin Freeman weren't able to pick up a win. Maty Cancini is still in search of a singles win at the tournament as she lost to Milka Genkova of Wyoming, 6-3, 6-4.
Bonadonna grabbed an impressive victory over Emma Corwin of CSU, as she bounced back with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win. Regina Espindola also participated in a long match, winning 4-6, 7-5, 7-1 against Magdalena Stencel of Wyoming.Â
The Cyclones will return to action Sunday at 9 a.m. Central Time to conclude the tournament.Â
