ISU Opens Fall Season at Gopher Invitational
Cyclones See Doubles Success; Timakova Makes Semis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Iowa State sophomore Rita Timakova advanced to the semifinals and Cyclone double's teams won three brackets on Friday at the Gopher Invitational.
Timakova beat Omaha's Natalie Lorentz, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round and followed that with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 comeback win against North Dakota's Isabella Sullivan. In tomorrow's semifinals, Timakova will meet up with Minnesota's Barbara Mancera.
Overall, ISU went 4-3 in opening round matches, with Maty Cancini, Annabella Bonadonna and Erin Freeman advancing along with Timakova.
In doubles action, Bonadonna and Timakova continued their strong play by improving to 4-0 at the Gopher Invite with a pair of wins against duos from North Dakota and Omaha.
Bonadonna and Timakova highlighted an overall strong day in doubles action as ISU pairs went 6-0 to win each bracket it played in. Cancini and Kat Repina were dominant with a pair of 6-1 wins against teams from South Dakota and South Dakota State, while Regina Espindola and Freeman beat North Dakota and South Dakota State teams to give ISU a sweep.
Tournament action will resume Saturday at 8 a.m. with a pair of doubles matches, followed by one singles match, for each player.
