Cyclones Conclude Third Day Of Gopher Invite; Timakova To Play For Third

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The Iowa State tennis team wrapped up its third day at the Gopher Invitational with two rounds of doubles matches and one round of singles play. Â Â
In singles, Rita Timakova will play for third place after falling in her semifinal match to Minnesota's Barbara Mancera, 6-2, 6-4.. Maty Cancini won over Jana Lazerovic of South Dakota, 6-2, 7-5, 10-4. Cancini will compete in the fifth-place match tomorrow.
Annabella Bonadonna was defeated by Camilla Vargas-Gomez of the Golden Gophers, who picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win. Regina Espindola advanced to the consolation finals with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Nebraska's Hayley Haakenstad.
In doubles action, ISU finished with a record of 3-3. Espindola and Cancini started off strong, posting a 6-0 win against South Dakota State's Theodora Kyriakopoulou and Marta-Anna Tynna. Espindola and Cancini then faced Caroline Ryba and Tina Kreinis of Minnesota, but fell 7-6 (7-3).
Timakova and Bonadonna broke their doubles winning streak, falling to Milica Novakovic and Lesley Foe of Marquette, 6-3. The pair bounced back with a 6-0 win against SDSU's Katerina Tretyakova and Emilly Van Dijk.
The tournament will conclude Sunday at 8 a.m. with a pair of doubles matches and one round of singles matches.
