LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Iowa State soccer team fell to Long Beach State 2-1 Friday at George Allen Field.
Turning Point of the Game
In the sixth minute, Long Beach State was awarded a free kick near the left corner. Jessica Vincent sent the ball into the box right in front of the goal. Rocio Rodriguez snuck it in for the early goal. Long Beach State scored the second goal of the game on an Ashley Gonzales penalty kick. After going down 2-0 the Cyclones really turned it on. Firing three shots in the last seven minutes and Lauren Roeling was able to score her second goal of the season on a header with an assist from Kourtney Camy in the 84th minute. Iowa State stayed on the attack and had opportunities, but just fell short.

Koree Willer. The junior forward really turned her game up a notch toward the end of the game. Willer led the team with three shots with two of them being on goal. Willer kept battling and wouldn't quit and was really putting the 49ers on their heels leading to Lauren Roeling's goal.
Coach Said It
"I think we came out and played hard,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “We gave up that early goal which was unfortunate, but we really started to find our footing and connecting passes. We started getting good quality attack against a great team. The just beat UCLA who is number four in the country last weekend. We not only showed that we can play with them, but at times we took it to them and put them on their heels. We're definitely starting to come together and I'm excited for what's next. Getting to play Pepperdine, number ten in the country right now, and seeing how we can build on this and get better.”
Game Notes
* Junior Lauren Roeling scored her second goal of the season and the third of her career.
