Ames, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team wrapped up day two at the ITA Regionals in Norman, Oklahoma on Friday. Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko headlined the day for Cyclones, knocking off the No. 20 doubles team in the country en route to making the doubles quarterfinals.
Alberto Vilar and Shulzhenko opened the day by defeating Wichita State's Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava in the Round of 32, 8-6. They then knocked off the top-20 pair of Heike Janse Van Vuuren and Kyoka Kubo from Kansas via tiebreak, 8-7 (5). Gabriella Kellner and Suzanie Pretorius also picked up a doubles win in the consolation draw due to opponent injury. Gabriela Felix and Valeska San Martin Ramirez, along with Julia Camblor and Ashlee Narker, each fell in their respective second-round doubles matches.
In singles, Alberto Vilar continued her success against the Jayhawks, by coming back to beat Meriem Ben Ezzedine, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. Narker was the second Cyclone to win her opening singles main draw match, defeating Arkansas State's Anna Grigoreva, 7-5, 7-6 (4). Shulzhenko, Camblor and Pretorius each fell in their respective singles matches.
