PROVO, Utah – Iowa State (11-2, 1-1 Big 12) fell in three to No. 14 BYU (12-1, 0-1 Big 12) by set scores of 18-25, 20-25, 24-26 Saturday afternoon.
Alea Goolsby had her sixth match in a row with 10-plus kills and has now hit 10 or more in nine of the first 12 matches. Goolsby totaled 11, while Nayeli Ti'a joined Goolsby in double figures with 10 at .438 hitting.
Rachel Van Gorp extends her match streak to 18 with double figure digs as she saved 10 attacks from hitting the ground.
SET ONE
With BYU leading 5-4, the Cougars went on their way to extend their advantage to five at 10-5 drawing an ISU timeout. ISU came out of the timeout bringing it back within one (12-11) in a run including a Ti'a ace. BYU would bring it back to a five-plus point set, reaching 20 as ISU held 14. A Ti'a kill fought off set point once, but BYU took the opening frame 25-18.
SET TWO
ISU began ahead 4-1 after two early kills by Goolsby, while BYU pressed on to tie it at 6s. Goolsby kept it going, hitting her fifth kill of the set alone to keep the lead at 9-7. BYU flipped the lead at 10-9, while back-and-forth action followed. Iowa State would hold the 15-14 edge at the media timeout, but the Cougars answered with a 4-0 run to again flip the lead. BYU called a timeout as ISU came withing a point at 20-19, but the Cougars held the lead taking the set 25-20.
SET THREE
Goolsby's 10th kills put ISU within a pair at 12-10, and BYU went on to lead 15-10 at the media timeout. Ti'a's 10th kill made it 18-17, BYU, and the Cyclones knotted the score at 21s on a block by Maya Duckworth and Amiree Hendricks-Walker. Duckworth laid down a kill as ISU grabbed a 23-22 lead, and the set was extended as Goolsby laid down a kill at 24s. BYU again reached match point at 25-24, and sealed it with an ace.

Iowa State returns home next week for two matches to open the home conference slate. First up is Texas Tech Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. before UCF visits Ames Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.
